In
the Niagara 35, Mark Ellis has created a classic cruising sloop with
the beauty of line and speed that every cruising yachtsman dreams of.
It's an elusive balance of appearance, performance and uncompromising
comfort. The moderate displacement hull provides generous accommodation
for six, yet when equipped with furling jib, the yacht can be handled
easily by two people, with sail handling managed from the safety of the
cockpit. She is capable of Atlantic crossings or leisurely sailing the
great lakes and beyond.
With a high aspect sail plan, fin keel and spade rudder, the
Niagara moves and maneuvers smartly for a big boat. A raised helmsman's
bench affords excellent visibility in a spacious cockpit.
The unique cabin layout of the Niagara 35 is designed to maximize
the vessel's 35 foot length and 11'5" beam. The aft cabin has a single
and double quarter berth with full hanging locker on the port side and
a dresser/navigation area to starboard.
The walk through galley is located on the port side with gimbaled
propane stove and ice box set outboard, and a deep stainless steel
double sink and work counter located inboard at the point of minimum
pitch providing maximum bracing in heavy seas. There is ample storage
space for utensils and provisions. A full door separates the galley
from the aft cabin.
Opposite the galley side is the head. A stainless oval basin is
set in a vanity, with a cupboard for toiletries above and storage for
towels below. The forward cabin has a drop-leaf table and settee
berths, one of which extends into a double berth.
Voluminous storage on the Niagara 35 is provided by two hanging
lockers, a bureau and lockers below, above and behind the settees
